School to School
We are too small to do big things. But we can do the small ones. And they may grow as we have grown up too.
Children like other children. They are fond of animals too, and they like to be in the midst of things. Can the children from Europe help children in Africa? They most certainly can. Led by their teachers, they can collect paper for recycling, pick and sell medicinal plants, they can organize second hand toy sales etc. The money earned can then be sent to the partner school in Africa, where, for instance, school equipment and one goat can be bought for a specific child.
This child is then able to attend the school and his or her family benefits from the goat’s milk. The family takes care of the goat and the first-born kid is given to another child. By this time, any further kids belong to the original family. Each supported child does the same. The mutual co-operation wheel has started to turn. The African school staff together with the pupils supervise the children and their families, and make sure that they take good care of the goats and that the kids are given away to other children. The European and African children can exchange letters, photos etc. practicing English at the same time. This can be an opportunity for the schools to share some of their teaching experiences. They can teach their own children about far away country through personal contacts and these new friendships may well outlast their school days. Children have one big disadvantage: they grow up too quickly, but, they will already have experienced what responsibility and personal participation means. They will also have friends in far away country whose problems might become closer to some people hearts.
