Open school
All children like to go to school and they all want to learn more.
Poverty in Kenya still prevents many children from getting an elementary education. The situation of schools is not easy either. In many schools, the only school supply is still a blackboard. Children, who do not have the chance to use coloured pencils, write their homework in their notebooks and read books with pictures, can hardly develop their imagination, personal opinions and creativity. However, the support of a particular school will bring an important benefit to many children.
The aim of the project is to break the barriers on the children’s paths to a higher-quality education. The project will enable children from poor families to access education. It will also increase the quality of education for all the children in the given school. We will educate the teachers, provide textbooks and school supplies. Together with the pedagogues, we will prepare a space for doing homework and tutoring. In this way, we will create suitable conditions for raising the quality of education for all the children in the school. The tuition fees and costs of food will be paid for the children who are threatened most by poverty.
The project will always be carried out in cooperation with one elementary school in Kenya. Question can be about a state school or a community school, located in the city slum or village area. ShineBean will create a cooperation plan with the school, based on which it will provide training for teachers, a school library with textbooks, other equipment and necessary school supplies. All of this will be used by all the children in the school. In the school’s spaces, an education centre, where the children will be able to use the library and school supplies in afternoon hours, will be run. The children, who do not have the conditions to do this at home, will have a place to do their homework, study or ask for extra help, which the school will provide. In cooperation with the pedagogues, ShineBean will choose those children, who are in greatest need. The essential school costs like uniforms, desks, school supplies and food will be paid for these children. These new measures will open the doors of the school even to the poorest children and will provide all children with the same opportunities and a considerably higher quality education.
It will be possible to develop further cooperation through other educational programmes for the school (prevention of illnesses, a healthy way of life, nutrition...), educational programmes for the local community and the creation of job opportunities for parents who supply the school (sewing uniforms, cultivating cereals and vegetables...) or who provide the school with technically more demanding equipment (provision of drinking water...).
You can support this project with a one-off donation or with regular donations, which will be used for securing school supplies and other school needs. You can also make regular contributions to the Open School project, which will be used to pay the school costs for a particular child in need. We will be happy to inform you on the situation and development of the school class or child chosen by you.
